The 1st China Europa short film competition

China Europa’s 2009 edition will be highlighted by its holding the first short film competition about Sustainable Urban Development.

The competition is open to European and Chinese art schools, schools of cinematography and audiovisual arts, as well as architectural schools with an audiovisual department.

The films can be inspired by the following subject matters :

  • Life in major cities
  • The place of Man within cities
  • Cities: a place for fulfilment
  • Nature inside the city
  • etc.

 

Format of competing short films

Length

  • From 4 to 6 minutes

B&W and / or colour

Dialogue / commentary

  • Voice-over commentary and/or dialogue are possible.

Languages

  • French with English and Chinese subtitles
  • English with French and Chinese subtitles
  • Chinese with French and English subtitles

Image format

  • Broadcast-quality digital video (for a would-be TV broadcast)
  • High definition if possible

Acceptable genres

  • Fiction
  • Documentary
  • Coverage
  • Creative work
  • Animation
 

How it works

1. Applications must be received no later than October 28th, 2008.
2. We will choose 15 to 20 applicationsthat will get the green light to produce their work. Selected applicants will receive a provision of €1,000 to launch their project.
3. Completed short films must be received no later than February 15th, 2009.
4. We will choose 6 short films prior to the opening of China Europa 2009.
5. The 6 nominees will be invited to present their short film before a jury during the China Europa Convention. The jury will include leading figures from the worlds of cinema, architecture, the audiovisual industry, town planning, as well as event sponsor representatives:

  • Chinese Embassy,
  • MEEDAT*,
  • City of Le Havre
  • etc.

6. Prizes awarded to the winners :

  • China Europa 2009 1st Prize
  • Jury’s Special Prize
  • Net Surfer’s Prize
